Nathan Peterson, a singer/songwriter from Illinois, invites us to see the world around us, and the world within, from a new place. In a culture whose foundations are built upon escape, distraction, pain-avoidance, and future-living, it is almost impossible to be where we are, when we are... let alone who we are. What is, has become peripheral. Living each moment has taken a back seat to planning the moments to come. Thus, we've traded away our right to live our life. "So Am I" is an invitation to come back to where, and when, and who we are. To live our life - life the way it is.

Nathan describes with great transparency his fight to live each moment of the 14 months his daughter Olivia, who was deemed "incompatible with life" at birth, fought to do the same. He shares the lessons he learned from a terminal, perfect little girl, about life and living and letting go. He invites us to see the world around us, and the world within, from a new place. A place we've been longing to be.

Nathan Peterson is a singer/songwriter from Illinois. He and his wife Heather are the parents of five children, Jude, Charlie, Ruth, Olivia, and Benjamin.

So Am I 14 Months of Life and Living and Letting Go edition by Nathan Peterson SelfHelp eBooks

Much more than just an account of having a chronically ill child, there are very true insights about life itself here that will really make you think. Fear as the root cause of so much societal dysfunction. Finding happiness and beauty in what is and having life in the moment instead of expectation and disappointment. God and community and love bringing you, sometimes just barely, through the hardest possible times. A reminder that this world is a Gethsemane (olive press), a beautiful garden where we're pressed to the limit, but must go through to the other side, and maybe change the world.

Unfortunately, most people who pick up books like this know the author or are personally acquainted in some way. It's unfortunate in this case because so many would be so touched to pick up this book and have their soul stirred. Nathan has done a masterful job penning the beauty and struggle of life and loss. Too often, books based on journals come across as random aimless thoughts or forced teaching at the expense of authentic story. This book is the perfect combination of authentic heartfelt story and clear lessons for any of us to take and grow from. This is a quick and easy read in terms of format, but you'll do well to take time and savor it. Slow down. Put yourself in the time and place and let yourself grow. You'll be better for it.
Thanks for sharing your heart in such a real way Nathan. Great insights about the joy and pain of this life. Well done.
Such a beautiful lesson in how to love.
This book tells the touching story of a father's love for a child who wasn't supposed to make it past the first day of life but amazingly made it past her first birthday. The book includes photos as well as honest feelings about going through the ups and downs and reality of life is fragile.
I don't know exactly what I expected from this book, maybe more of a detailed what actually took place from Day to day, but what was written was so much greater. There is so much wisdom and inspiration here that is applicable to not only those facing trials, but for all of us as we navigate this thing called life!
A beautifully written, authentic look into the heart and soul of another human facing life's unexpected. Each chapter is full of gold mined through the journey of choosing to look fear full in the face and live in the moment.

So am I is full of life lessons for all of us. It's a book that breathes life, quality, and substance. Thank you, Nathan Peterson, for trusting us with Olivia, with your story, with your words, and with your heart. We are better because you had the courage to share.
This book is a transparent and honest look at life in the midst of struggle, grief and loss. What comes across clearly is God's grace and power truly do sustain us in our most difficult times. This book is very inspiring and encouraging, not just for parents who are loving and living with a terminally ill child, but for any believer who is looking for hope in the midst of their struggles. There are so many valuable life lessons in this book...so much hard earned spiritual wisdom and truth. It's a reminder of God's miracles and the preciousness of life. It's a tender look at the love a man has for his family and the love of our Heavenly Father for His children. Olivia was a precious, beautiful gift and this book is as well.
